Kristen Doyan is an associate attorney at Matern Law Group. Her practice focuses exclusively on representing individuals who have suffered workplace harm, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or underpayment of wages.
As an attorney focused on labor and employment, Kristen is committed to tenacious and compassionate representation of employee rights, especially in the complex world of California employment law. She carefully identifies employer harm and fights for clients until a favorable solution is reached. She has both state and federal employment law experience, having served as an extern for Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Administrative Law Judge Louis Garcia and worked extensively on all aspects of employment litigation – including class action litigation – in private practice. Her work on behalf of employees also includes filing claims under California’s Private Attorneys General Act. This law allows past and present employees to bring a labor law violation claim on the part of an employer’s workforce, acting in the place of a state agency.
When representing clients, Kristen draws her inspiration and motivation from her dad. Growing up, she admired her father’s hard work as the family’s breadwinner. Unfortunately, she saw him taken advantage of by multiple employers, treated as throwaway labor and witnessed him wrongfully terminated. He never knew his rights as an employee, and no one backed him when standing up to a huge corporation. Watching her father’s mistreatment inspired her to help individual employees by holding their large corporate employers accountable for their behavior. These experiences and her convictions about how workers should be treated align her personal values with those of the firm.
Kristen graduated from the University of California, Davis, where she received the Award of Appreciation for Academic Excellence. Her academic achievements also landed her on the Dean’s Honor List for three years. She continued her studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law, where she received the Masin Family Academic Excellence Silver Award for achieving one of the highest grades in her class in Remedies. The Masin Awards recognize UCLA Law students who demonstrate academic excellence in a particular subject area.
In her spare time, Kristen stays grounded by connecting with nature. She is an avid equestrian and enjoys riding in Griffith Park on her horse, Lex. She lives in the Los Angeles area with her tortoiseshell cat, Bella, and is based in Matern Law Group’s Manhattan Beach office.
Ms. Doyan can also speak Armenian, Estonian, and Spanish.
